I did bonk once on a long ride. It was fast and I had not eaten anything and it was also freezing cold and I just wanted to get home. I felt a little dizzy and my legs did not have their usual power. I was almost just flopping them round in a low gear and popped into Subway as there was a big long hill up to my university house. ? Only other time I did a mile as fast as I could on an empty stomach and felt a bit dizzy but I ate an orange and was better.

I would have thought it would be disadvantageous to drink too much during a race as it adds weight and makes you need a drink pee but certainly if you have even a hint of thirst. If? you’re riding hard you should be able to balance drinking and sweating with a bit of practice and the urge to pee is not as strong due to the water loss from elsewhere. I’m still having trouble replacing my secondary bottle on the go. Might install a 2nd cage on my top tube instead of the seat tube.
